Over 150 firefighting water tankers mobilized to supply water to drought-hit southeast

South Korea deployed over 150 water tankers to supply water to drought-stricken South Gyeongsang Province, as part of an extended national firefighting mobilization effort. The deployment included 100 tankers from outside the province, aimed at providing water to areas experiencing extreme dryness. The mobilization order, initially set to expire, was extended due to the province's critically low water storage levels.

South Gyeongsang's average water reservoir storage rate stood at a concerning 32.2 percent, significantly lower than the long-term average of 70.6 percent. During the two-day period, fire authorities distributed 12,445 tons of water to the province. In response to the worsening drought situation, the interior ministry established a dedicated task force and collaborated with private logistics companies to transport additional water trucks, pumps, and necessary equipment to combat the severe drought.
