Over 1 million eggs recalled in US over possible contamination – check your fridge

Nearly 1.6 million dozen eggs have been recalled in the US due to potential contamination with Salmonella Enteritidis, according to a recall issued by Midwest Poultry Services on July 22. The affected eggs, produced at farms in Texas, were distributed between June 6 and July 3, 2026, with sell-by or best-by dates ranging from July 20 to August 7, 2026.

The recall covers both white shell and brown cage-free shell eggs, with codes P-1950 or 0840962 and Julian dates from 157 to 184 printed on the cartons. Retailers like Kroger, Simple Truth, Brookshire's, Country Morning, and Sunups, among others, are among those involved. As of July 24, the FDA and CDC are investigating a multistate outbreak of 98 infections across 17 states, resulting in 26 hospitalizations and no deaths.

The FDA has advised consumers to discard the recalled eggs or return them for a refund, and to clean and sanitize surfaces that may have come into contact with the eggs to prevent cross-contamination.
