‘Osun election is a test of Tinubu’s all is fair in politics comment’ – Laolu Akande

Laolu Akande, a former Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has stated that the upcoming governorship election in Osun State could provide a glimpse into what Nigerians can anticipate in the 2027 general elections. Akande highlighted this during a discussion on his Channels Television programme, Inside Sources, in the context of the election.

He emphasized this as a test of President Bola Tinubu's famous remark, "all is fair in politics," asserting that the world would be closely observing the event. Tinubu, during a meeting with the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, reiterated this statement, "Those who would take it from me will try.

They will try. All is fair in politics, and there is equal opportunity." Akande noted that the Osun Decides election serves as the initial test of Tinubu's comment, considering the factors like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) actions, viral threats, and incidents of violence reported. He pointed out that these factors, along with the President's statement on the fairness of politics, would be scrutinized by the opposition, civil society organizations, the international community, and possibly even by the President himself, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
