The Ogun State Police Command and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have commenced a joint enforcement operation to eliminate sachet and PET bottle alcoholic beverages less than 200ml from circulation in Ogun State. Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni announced this collaboration on Thursday, alongside Ogun State NAFDAC coordinator, Mr. Akinwale Fagoroye, at the Command Headquarters in Abeokuta.
Fagoroye disclosed that the operation, which commenced in Abeokuta, will extend to other regions of Ogun State until full compliance is attained. The primary objective is to safeguard public health and mitigate the adverse impacts of inexpensive, easily portable alcohol, particularly among children and adolescents. NAFDAC officials are currently inspecting markets, motor parks, retail stores, bars, warehouses, and factories throughout the state.
They possess the authority to intervene against counterfeit, unregistered, substandard, adulterated, expired, or incorrectly labeled products, as well as establishments operating without the requisite approvals.
NAFDAC is empowered to take action against these illegal products and establishments.
