NPP to elect regional executives across 16 regions on August 15

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is scheduled to hold Regional Executive Elections across 15 regions on August 15, 2026, with the Western North Region concluding the process on August 16. These elections represent a crucial step in the party's internal reorganization following its loss in the 2024 general elections. The NPP leadership has ensured all logistics are in place and electoral officers are deployed at designated voting centers nationwide to guarantee a transparent, free, and fair process.

Thousands of certified party delegates will participate, casting their votes to elect new regional executives, including the positions of Regional Chairman, Secretary, Organiser, Women’s Organiser, and Youth Organiser. Each region has 11 positions up for election.

Political analysts highlight significant battlegrounds, such as the Ashanti Region, where a fierce leadership battle is unfolding as local factions vie for the influential Regional Chairmanship. In Bono Region, incumbent Chairman Kwame Baffoe faces four challengers in his attempt to retain his position at the GNAT Hostel in Sunyani.

Other regions, including Greater Accra and Western, feature highly competitive races for the Regional Chairman and Secretary positions, with hundreds of aspirants cleared to contest. To maintain procedural integrity, the NPP National Secretariat has set strict guidelines for all voting centers. The Ghana Police Service is solely responsible for security, and the party has banned proxy voting and prohibited delegates from bringing mobile phones or recording devices into voting booths to ensure ballot secrecy.

The elections are a prerequisite for the party's upcoming internal process: the election of its new national leadership. Following the announcement of results this weekend, the National Elections Committee, chaired by Frederick Opare-Ansah, will officially begin nominations for the National Executive Elections on August 17, 2026.

The final stage of internal restructuring will conclude with the National Delegates Conference on October 3, 2026. Party executives have urged all candidates and delegates to demonstrate mutual respect and prioritize party unity over personal ambitions, emphasizing that grassroots mobilization will be vital to rebuilding the NPP's structures ahead of future political campaigns.
