"Not Nearly Enough": Trump Rejects Concerns US Warship Deployed For Too Long

President Donald Trump dismissed worries about the mental health and supply issues faced by American sailors deployed on the USS Abraham Lincoln, stationed in the Middle East. In a brief encounter with reporters before heading to New York, Trump denied that families had raised concerns and asserted that the 260-day deployment was "not nearly long enough."

The Lincoln, supporting the U.S. war against Iran, is set to be replaced by another similarly equipped ship. Democratic lawmakers, including Senators Richard Blumenthal and Ruben Gallego, have called for accountability from the Pentagon regarding conditions on the carrier, which Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth claimed were "completely misrepresented."

Critics, like Rep. Jason Crow, have accused Trump of not caring about servicemembers or their families. While hostilities with Iran have lessened, the Navy has maintained a blockade on Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz, and the administration has not specified plans to end the conflict. The USS George Washington recently departed from Da Nang, Vietnam, to replace the Lincoln, one of two aircraft carriers currently deployed in the region.

Reports of mental health concerns among sailors have sparked a Navy denial of increased suicidal thoughts or attempts, though they have not released data for security and privacy reasons. A sailor overboard incident in early August, treated by the ship's medical department, remains under investigation, but its cause has not been confirmed.

U.S. Central Command, overseeing Middle East operations, has refuted allegations of poor conditions on the ship.
