“My new movie ‘Ama’ has no single dot of English” – McBrown

Nana Ama McBrown has revealed that her upcoming film, Ama, is entirely scripted and filmed in Twi, with no English dialogue. Speaking on Hitz FM, McBrown emphasized that the decision was made as part of the film's creative direction, aiming to tell the story authentically in Ghana's local language. "It's a typical Ghanaian movie with no single dot of English," she stated.

The plot revolves around a young girl who has aspirations of her own, yet her parents try to impose their decisions on her instead of guiding her. "The story is about a young girl who has a vision, but sometimes your parents want you to do what they want, forgetting that they need to guide you and not impose their decisions on you," McBrown explained.

The film delves into themes such as forced marriage, honesty, tradition, parental guidance, and country laws, highlighting issues that remain relevant to Ghanaian society. McBrown noted that the ensemble cast is predominantly made up of new actors, with herself and actor-comedian Dr Likee being the only established faces. This decision to work with new talent was inspired by the opportunity she received from Miracle Films in 2001, which launched her career.

McBrown expressed her desire to create similar opportunities for emerging actors, as someone once did for her. Ama is set to premiere on 15 August 2026, coinciding with McBrown's 25th anniversary in the entertainment industry in Ghana.
