Mumbai to get a batch of new AC local train rakes by 2027: CM Fadnavis

Mumbai's suburban railway network will soon receive its first batch of new air-conditioned local train rakes by 2027, announced Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday (August 13, 2026). The Maharashtra government has collaborated with the Indian Railways to manufacture 238 new rakes in three coach factories, including the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, Rail Coach Factory (RCF) in Kapurthala, and Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Raebareli.

Fadnavis emphasized that these rakes will provide "metro train-level smooth services" on the suburban railway network, aiming to improve the ease of travel and save time for commuters. The inauguration of several MMRDA projects, such as Chembur Metro Station under Phase 1A of Metro Line 2B, the elevated corridor from Bharat Nagar Road to Vakola Junction, and the flyover connecting G Block of the Bandra-Kurla Complex with the Eastern Express Highway, were also held during the event.

The final link, the Bharat Nagar–Vakola link (SCLR Extension), will help decongest traffic at Vakola junction, connecting Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) and the Western Express Highway.
