More than 80 people injured by aerial firing in Karachi on eve of Independence Day

Karachi witnessed a harrowing day on the eve of Pakistan’s Independence Day, as more than 80 individuals were injured due to aerial firing incidents. Rescue officials reported that 86 people sustained injuries, comprising 10 women, 17 children, and 59 men. The emergency services managed to transport 24 victims to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, 35 to Jinnah Hospital, and 26 to Civil Hospital. Additionally, one woman was airlifted to a private facility.

The aerial firing incidents were reported across various districts, including Lyari, Saddar, Korangi, Malir, Azizabad, North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Gulbahar, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Orangi Town, Jamshed Quarters, and Defence. Police in Karachi’s East district swiftly acted against these transgressions, arresting 10 suspects and recovering weapons used for aerial firing. Similar crackdowns were carried out in Karachi’s West district, where three suspects were apprehended.

Despite prohibitions imposed in the past, aerial firing remains a common occurrence on significant occasions like Independence Day and New Year’s Eve, often resulting in numerous injuries. Last year, the tragic incident claimed the lives of three individuals, including a minor girl, and left over 100 people wounded in celebratory gunfire across the city.
