Manufacturing sales rise for fifth consecutive month in June: StatCan

OTTAWA – Statistics Canada reported that manufacturing sales in June experienced a fifth consecutive month of growth. This positive trend was driven primarily by gains in the chemical and transportation equipment sectors. The manufacturing sector's sales increased by 0.1 percent to reach $78.8 billion in June. Within the chemical subsector, sales expanded by 6 percent to $6.3 billion, while the transportation equipment subsector saw a notable 2.8 percent increase to $12.4 billion.

When adjusted for inflation, manufacturing sales rose by 1.2 percent in June. Wholesale sales, excluding petroleum, petroleum products, and other hydrocarbons and excluding oilseed and grain, climbed 2.8 percent to $92.5 billion. In the machinery, equipment, and supplies subsector, sales rose by 4.8 percent to $20.1 billion, following two months of decline.

The food, beverage, and tobacco sector saw a 2.8 percent increase to $16.4 billion, with the food industry contributing to the majority of this growth.
