Man held for killing wife and head constable in Vellore over family dispute

In Vellore, an autorickshaw driver named K. Aravindan, 45, has been apprehended by Gudiyatham town police for allegedly murdering his wife, Thamarai Selvi, 41, a head constable on duty, over a family dispute. Aravindan is a resident of Erthangal village, near Gudiyatham town. The couple, Aravindan and Thamarai Selvi, had two sons and lived in Erthangal village.

The police claim the couple had been bickering over their share of Aravindan's ancestral property. As a result, Thamarai Selvi decided to live with her children at her mother's house in the same village for the past two months, refusing to return to Aravindan's residence until the property issue was resolved. It was in July this year that Aravindan's brother and family lodged a complaint at the Office of Superintendent of Police regarding threats from Thamarai Selvi concerning the property share.

An inquiry into these allegations is currently underway. On the day of the incident, Thamarai Selvi was on duty in Erthangal village when Aravindan invited her to discuss the family dispute. An argument ensued as they walked near a lake, leading to Aravindan stabbing her with a pair of scissors. She fell to the ground, bleeding profusely.

Witnessing the scene, passersby alerted an ambulance and informed the Gudiyatham police. Thamarai Selvi was pronounced dead at Government Taluk Hospital in Gudiyatham town. Aravindan, on the other hand, was transported to Government Medical College Hospital in Vellore town for treatment. A case has been registered, and a thorough investigation is underway.
