Magudam movie review: Vishal’s directorial debut swings big, lands unevenly

Magudam, Vishal's directorial debut, presents a complex tale that swings between brilliance and uneven execution. The film explores the world of coastal cargo and shipping, delving into themes of power, loyalty, and a violent legacy. Vishal, playing multiple roles, delivers a committed performance across his three avatars of Linga, from a gangster to a battle-hardened man to a regular employee.

Dushara Vijayan and Anjali provide solid support, with Anjali standing out in action sequences. However, the script's limitations hinder some performances, particularly in emotional scenes. While the first half effectively builds the world and stakes, the middle and second half struggle with narrative threads. The eight-minute climax is the film's standout, but overall, Magudam feels more like a collection of strong moments than a cohesive whole.
