Lee to discuss reforming youth policy with experts

President Lee Jae Myung called for reforming youth policies during a meeting with experts and officials on Friday. He emphasized the need to address the actual needs of young people amidst an era of stagnant economic growth and reduced opportunities. The president noted that South Korea is experiencing a phase of low growth, characterized by economic recovery without significant employment, largely due to the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) which may result in fewer job opportunities.

Lee stressed that current youth policies are ineffective for young people facing declining prospects and called for a thorough review to identify effective policies and the desires of the younger generation. He pointed out that government policies are often formulated from a policy-maker's perspective, rather than considering the needs of those who are meant to benefit from them.

The meeting aimed to discuss the direction of policy shifts and address fundamental issues. The president's call for reform followed a series of recent declines in his approval ratings, primarily due to concerns over housing prices and stock market declines among young voters.
