Lebanese official: Israel awaits US green light for operation to seize Ali al-Taher ridge

Lebanese officials have reported that Israel is preparing to launch an offensive to seize the strategic Ali al-Taher ridge, according to a senior security source cited by Al Joumhouria. The U.S. has given Lebanon a green light for the operation, but emphasized that it should be precise and avoid civilian casualties. Israel is eager to achieve this objective, according to the source, and Hezbollah's response is now the main focus.

The conflict is viewed as a race against the upcoming U.S.-Iranian agreement, which could significantly impact the situation in southern Lebanon. Hezbollah is believed to have terrorists trapped in an underground facility at the ridge, while the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are tightening the siege and cutting off water supply lines.

Hezbollah members are reportedly attempting to break the siege using drones. The future of the conflict and the Iran-U.S. agreement remains uncertain, as well as the ongoing negotiations between Israel and Lebanon, which are expected to resume in early September. Lebanon's Al-Jadeed channel reported that Beirut is increasing its demands for a cease-fire and expanded pilot areas before further negotiations.
