Korea Forest Service holds colloquium on mushroom farming technology

On Wednesday, the Korea Forest Service, a research institution under the government, convened a colloquium to address the digital transformation of mushroom farming, with the goal of enhancing the competitiveness of Korea's mushroom sector. The gathering convened researchers to present recent advancements in smart cultivation and to investigate the potential of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) and big data into mushroom cultivation practices.

The inaugural session, which centered on the development of new mushroom varieties, delved into the current state of molecular methods for cultivation and their practical applications in the field, along with ongoing research into utilizing digital farming techniques to create new varieties tailored to market demands. Attendees deliberated on strategies for data-driven, personalized development.

The second session shifted focus to smart cultivation technology, with the aim of standardizing quality and optimizing production efficiency. Discussions encompassed the present state and technical obstacles of smart cultivation for forest mushrooms, intelligent environmental controls, and automated processes within smart farms. Additionally, researchers explored emerging research trends surrounding the use of phenomics in the field.
