Klitschko urges Koretsky to transfer Hostynyi Dvir to Kyiv's ownership ahead of restoration

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has urged Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky to facilitate the transfer of the historical Hostynyi Dvir building, located on Kontraktova Square, from its current ownership to the ownership of Kyiv’s territorial community. The building, a national significance landmark, has been in a state of disrepair for years and continues to deteriorate due to lack of proper waterproofing and shallow depth of the metro tunnels beneath it.

Klitschko emphasized that delaying the transfer could result in further deterioration of the building's technical condition. The city possesses the necessary financial resources and professional expertise to carry out emergency and conservation work, prepare design documentation, and proceed with the comprehensive restoration of Hostynyi Dvir, which is intended to serve as a multifunctional cultural space.

The transfer of Hostynyi Dvir to the city has been under discussion since 2017, when Kyiv City Council agreed to accept the building into communal property at no cost. Despite numerous appeals to the government, the building has remained under the management of the Culture Ministry, assigned under operational management to the Sofia Kyivska National Reserve.

In 2021, the Cabinet of Ministers changed the building's status to national significance, and the State Property Fund transferred it to the Culture and Information Policy Ministry.
