Kevin Lerena confirms date and venue for November Cruiserweight comeback

Kevin Lerena has announced his return to the WBC Cruiserweight division, with the event taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre on November 7. The 34-year-old, who was previously rated number 5 in the division, is aiming to secure a victory as he makes his return. No details about Lerena's opponent for the bout have been disclosed.

Lerena's setback came in a grueling 12-round rematch against Belgian rival Ryad Merhy in late May, where he suffered a loss. In a contentious decision, Merhy won the fight by scores of 116-112, 117-111, and 115-113. This defeat prompted Lerena to move down to the Cruiserweight division, which has a maximum weight limit of 90.7 kg.

Lerena is currently at 96.9 kg, effectively 97 kg, and is working hard to shed the necessary weight for the division. He acknowledges that dropping to 90.7 kg is a demanding task that requires discipline, adjusting training, and changing the environment. Despite entering his mid-30s, Lerena remains confident that his best boxing years are still ahead. He expressed excitement about the prospect of becoming a three-time world champion.
