Kentucky sets date for Big Blue Madness basketball event at Rupp Arena

The annual Kentucky men's and women's basketball season launch event, known as Big Blue Madness, will occur on October 2, according to the university's athletics department. The preseason gathering, held at Rupp Arena, includes team introductions followed by contests such as 3-point shooting, dunks, drills, and scrimmages. This tradition was initiated by former head coach Joe B. Hall in 1982 to generate enthusiasm for the upcoming season.

Although the event's format remains unchanged, its date has been brought forward by one week compared to previous years. This adjustment is attributed to alterations in NCAA rules, which now permit teams to participate in a third preseason exhibition game instead of the prior two. Currently, Mark Pope's men's squad is set to face Little Rock in an exhibition match on October 16.
