Kalonzo visits Aisha Jumwa amid political consultations in Kilifi

Kalonzo Musyoka, leader of the Wiper Party, met with former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa at her residence in Kakuyuni, Kilifi. This visit occurred while Jumwa was engaged in political consultations following her departure from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). Wiper Deputy Secretary-General Danson Mwashako shared a statement about the light-hearted encounter between the two.

Kalonzo was accompanied by a group of Wiper leaders, including Deputy Party Leader Mohamed Jicho Pevu, Kitui Senator Enock Wambua, and other party members. The gathering took place days after Jumwa announced her decision to leave UDA and would decide on her future political affiliation after holding consultations.

Following her UDA exit, Jumwa has been meeting with various opposition groups, with the Linda Mwananchi movement being among the first to engage her. James Orengo, the Governor of Siaya County, visited Jumwa and pledged a prominent role in the Edwin Sifuna-led movement if she were to join. Jubilee Party leaders also visited her residence, expressing their continued support as she continues her consultations.

Jumwa has stated that the people's choice will guide her in selecting the political party she will join, particularly ahead of the 2027 general election. Meanwhile, leaders from Kilifi, including National Assembly Majority Deputy Leader Owen Baya, have criticized Jumwa's departure from UDA and vowed to campaign against her potential run for the Kilifi gubernatorial seat. Kalonzo's visit underscores his efforts to consolidate support for the United Opposition in the Coast region, which historically favored Raila Odinga.
