Kabini pollution row: Activists threaten siege of SP office if FIR not filed

The Save Kabini Forum and the Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha have launched a campaign against pollution of the Kabini River due to untreated sewage discharge in H.D. Kote and Saragur. At a press conference in Mysuru, the organizations threatened to besiege the Superintendent of Mysuru district police's office if no FIRs were registered based on their complaints.

KRRS leader Manju Kiran stated that the groups have presented scientific lab reports showing the river's water is unfit for bathing. Complaints were lodged against the MLA, tahsildars, CEOs, heads, officials, and municipal body representatives, with police seeking 14 days to process the complaints. Manju Kiran warned that if FIRs are not registered despite the evidence, the organizations will besiege the police office.

Advocate Ravi Kumar accused officials and elected representatives of failing to ensure a sewage treatment plant, questioning how untreated sewage could contaminate the river. Mysuru Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy formed a four-member committee to investigate the charges and submit an action-taken report within 15 days.
