ITE drop-out, 22, works as waste collector, says doesn't matter what people think as it's an honest living

A 22-year-old man in Singapore, Muhamad Danial Aiman Abdul Muttalib, has chosen to become a waste collector and shares his work experience on TikTok. His account, @dannyarmani_, documents a day in the life of a recycle waste attendant. In an interview with Berita Harian, Danial, the eldest of three siblings, explained that he entered the waste collection industry as a way to prove he could change his life for the better, following a period of feeling he had let his family down.

He mentioned that he had initially entered the field by accident after being invited to an interview by a friend and was not overly selective about the job, as long as it provided a legitimate source of income.

Danial, who had dropped out of the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and had a sub-par performance during National Service, acknowledged facing challenges in his new line of work. One of the most significant hurdles he encounters is the weather, as he persists in his duties regardless of rain or shine. He also addressed the stigma surrounding waste collectors, clarifying that this occupation is not exclusive to any particular community, as workers from various backgrounds and races participate in this industry.

Despite the negative comments he received on social media about his profession, Danial stated that he does not take them seriously. To him, earning an honest living is more important than others' opinions. He emphasized that people can say whatever they want, but he knows his actions are not wrong, and he does not care what others think when he is providing an honest source of income.
