Investigation after inmate dies in Wheatfield Prison

An investigation is currently underway following the death of a prisoner at Wheatfield Prison in Dublin last night. The deceased has been identified as 39-year-old Brendan Gahan, who resided in Tallaght. Gahan was found dead in his cell, which he shared with another inmate. According to the information provided, Gahan was serving a sentence of two years and nine months for drug possession.

Police, including detectives, are currently at the prison to investigate the incident, which has been described as a violent death. The Garda Technical Bureau is set to conduct an examination of the scene, with the body subsequently being transferred to a mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
