‘His home was free for all’: Amitabh Bachchan recalls strangers walking into Dharmendra’s house

Amitabh Bachchan, a longtime colleague of the late Dharmendra, recently shared memories of Dharmendra's remarkable hospitality on a recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 18. Dharmendra, who passed away last November, was known for his warmth, generosity, and simplicity, which continued to resonate with colleagues and audiences alike.

Bachchan recounted an incident where Dharmendra's home was open to anyone who walked in, regardless of their origin. He described Dharmendra's house as "a free-for-all," where people from his village and elsewhere would feel at home. One day, Dharmendra returned to find four or five men at the stairs, and he asked them who they were and what they were doing there.

To his surprise, they claimed to have come from his village. The actor emphasized that Dharmendra did not even know how many people were entering and leaving his home, always welcoming them with love and warmth.

Bachchan, in a tribute to his departed friend, praised Dharmendra's "largeness of heart" and his simplicity. He highlighted Dharmendra's grounded nature, rooted in the village of Punjab, and his ability to maintain its temperament despite changes in the film industry. The actor described Dharmendra as a "Giant" who brought the earthiness of the village and remained true to its spirit throughout his career. Bachchan concluded his tribute by expressing that Dharmendra's passing had left a void, which would remain vacant.
