UK: Clacton Election: Nigel Farage declares himself the winner

The British right-wing populist Nigel Farage has already declared himself the winner of the by-election in the Clacton constituency, even before the result is announced. However, he said he would not attend the official event to announce the results of the election for a seat in the British parliament for security reasons, at a party event in Clacton in front of his supporters.

He had received more votes than in the last election in the district in the 2024 parliamentary elections, said the leader of the Reform UK party, speaking of a "convincing, overwhelming victory". In 2024, Farage received 46.2 percent of the votes and entered the British House of Commons as a deputy.

However, Farage does not plan to attend the official event to announce the results. According to him, he learned from the local police about a planned "organized campaign" against him, which aims to "disrupt and undermine" the result, he said. A spokesperson for the Reform party found little later clearer words and told the BBC that the Essex County Police had advised Farage not to attend the event due to a "credible threat against him". The police has not commented on the fact so far.

Just a few weeks ago, Farage had given up his parliamentary seat. Previously, he had made headlines due to controversial donations and benefits. The other major parties accused Farage of a diversionary maneuver and refused to set up candidates. The main competitor is therefore the joke candidate Count Binface.
