Gold miner expands healthcare support for 2,700 residents

More than 2,700 residents in the communities of Imogbara, Odo-Ijesha, and Iperindo reaped the benefits of a free healthcare program organized by Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL). The four-day medical outreach, held on August 7 and 8, 2026, offered residents medical consultations, laboratory investigations, specialist care, and health education.

As part of SROL's long-term treatment and support program, SegunCare, this year's outreach expanded to include more comprehensive mental health support. During the event, participants received 2,762 medical consultations and 81 were scheduled for surgical procedures. The program also conducted 1,860 laboratory tests and 563 eye examinations. Additionally, 21 residents underwent eye surgeries, and 174 pairs of prescription reading glasses were distributed.

The outreach also screened residents for various health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, HIV, Hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis, and other health issues. Seven cases of chronic mental health were identified, and mental health rehabilitation and counseling were provided. Furthermore, 50 residents were enrolled in SegunCare for ongoing management of their chronic illnesses.

Dr. Princewill Osuchukwu, SROL's Medical Services Manager, stated that the outreach aimed to ensure quality healthcare is accessible irrespective of location or cost. He explained that while the annual outreach provides immediate access to essential medical services, SegunCare continues to support residents living with chronic illnesses beyond the program's end. This year, the program integrated more mental health support to deliver holistic healthcare to the communities.

One beneficiary, Adeshina Sherifat, expressed gratitude for the life-changing impact of SegunCare, stating that it gave her confidence and peace of mind knowing support continues even after the outreach. Soji Gbege, Chairman of the Iperindo Community Development Agreement Committee, emphasized the importance of SROL's consistent presence in their communities, which has built trust and encouraged residents to believe in the organization's commitment to their well-being.
