Ghana and South Africa reach Play-Off Tournament

Ghana and South Africa have advanced to the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 Play-Off Tournament after securing their spots in the competition. The two teams will represent CAF, the Confederation of African Football, in the Play-Off, which will take place from November to December 2026 and conclude in February 2027.

The Black Queens and Banyana Banyana will be the two representatives from CAF in the Play-Off. After Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana faced each other in a crucial match in Casablanca, Ghana emerged victorious with a score of 2-1. Ines Konan scored the first goal for Ghana, and Marfo scored the winning goal after a handball in the Ivorian area.

South Africa also advanced to the Play-Off after defeating Nigeria by a score of 2-1. Thembi Kgatlana scored the opening goal for South Africa via a lightning-fast counterattack. Nigeria struggled against South Africa throughout the match and were unable to equalize, failing to participate in the global finals for the first time since the Women’s World Cup.

In both matches, the teams displayed strong performances and faced stiff competition, demonstrating their readiness to compete at the highest level in the upcoming Women’s World Cup.
