From FOMO to future jobs: PKR Youth motions put Gen Z outreach in focus

At the 2026 National Congress of Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) in Melaka, youth issues took center stage with motions addressing Generation Z (Gen Z) outreach, future jobs, mental health, and social wellbeing. Syahnaz Putera Mohd Yaacob, Perak AMK Information chief, emphasized PKR's challenges in appealing to younger voters, particularly Gen Z, and proposed a more digital-focused approach to engage this demographic.

He highlighted that Gen Z tends to vote due to the fear of missing out (FOMO), and suggested helping young people register clubs and associations to apply for funding and develop their talents. Terengnanu AMK chief Md Asyraf Zulfadhly Md Zainudin tabled a motion focusing on the gig economy, aiming to create more income opportunities for young people.

He proposed recognizing the gig economy as a legitimate employment sector with proper social protection, providing skill development pathways, expanding upskilling and reskilling programs, and strengthening ties between universities, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, and industry. Sarawak AMK secretary Christopher Jemat Amie stressed the importance of mental health and social wellbeing, urging PKR to incorporate these areas into the party's reform agenda as a continuous, rather than isolated, focus.
