French taxpayers' data stolen in cyber attack, French Finance Ministry says

PARIS, Aug 14: French taxpayers, both individuals and professionals, were victims of a cyberattack, according to the French Finance Ministry's statement released late on Thursday. The malicious actor claimed on Wednesday that they had breached the tax agency, General Direction of Public Finances, in late June. Investigations confirmed the cyberattack, which resulted in the unauthorized consultation and extraction of taxpayers' data.

Further probes are currently underway to ascertain the specific data compromised and the exact number of taxpayers impacted. The ministry disclosed that 678,000 users' data was stolen, adding that users concerned will receive individual notifications detailing the data potentially accessed or extracted and, if applicable, precautionary measures to be taken.
