Former Cambridge professor found dead amid plagiarism allegations

Jason Arday, Cambridge University's youngest Black professor, was discovered unresponsive at a Battersea, South London residence on Friday, according to the institution. The 41-year-old academic had been under scrutiny for plagiarism allegations and concerns surrounding his educational credentials. Cambridge Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Prentice expressed deep sorrow over the loss, extending heartfelt condolences to Arday's loved ones during this distressing time.

The U.K. Education Secretary, Lucy Powell, also conveyed her condolences, urging privacy for Arday's family and friends. Arday had resigned from his position last week following an investigation initiated by Cambridge University following fresh information about his academic qualifications and honorary appointments. The university stated that separate complaints of alleged academic misconduct were being addressed in accordance with their Misconduct in Research policy.

Simultaneously, Cambridge acknowledged the importance of providing support to Arday during this challenging period. Arday adamantly denied the plagiarism accusations, stating that his resignation was motivated by a desire to find personal peace and alleviate stress for himself and his family.
