Flood sacks Anambra traditional ruler from palace

Heavy rainfall in Anambra State has led to the submersion of the palace of the traditional ruler of Obosi Kingdom, Igwe Alexander Uzo Onyido, Ezechuamagha of Ogidi. The monarch reportedly left his palace as the floodwaters engulfed it, along with several luxury vehicles parked in the compound. Anambra State has been grappling with incessant heavy rainfall, disrupting economic activities and causing flooding in various communities.

Ogidi, known for its recurring flood and erosion issues, has been particularly affected. The road leading to Ogidi from Awka-Onitsha old road remains impassable due to frequent flooding, rendering several residents homeless. Despite promises from the Anambra State government to address the issue, no work has been initiated on the road, leading to persistent flooding of homes and businesses.

A social media user, Mr Iyke Orji, expressed disappointment, stating that the funds raised by the Ogidi community in the previous year were used for political campaigning rather than infrastructure development. He questioned why the roads were not fixed, boreholes dug, or any other infrastructure provided to the community, which has been struggling with floods for over 25 years. The whereabouts of Igwe Alexander Uzo Onyido, after his palace was inundated, remain unclear.
