Egyptian fries hit Brazilian plates

São Paulo – Egyptian fries are now available on Brazilian plates, thanks to the efforts of São Paulo-based company 52W. Along with frozen oranges and strawberries, Egyptian fries have broken into the Brazilian market, offering a cost-effective alternative during times of food hyperinflation. Gustavo Fávero, one of 52W’s partners, explained that high import costs, including freight, make Egyptian fries an appealing choice despite their higher price.

The company imports ready-to-cook fries from Egyptian companies, helping local manufacturers package them under their own brands. Fávero, who visited Egypt in December to connect with potato and orange farms and processing plants, emphasized the importance of food safety, noting that visiting production sites helps ensure imported products meet Brazilian standards. While his Egyptian imports are not the cheapest, they help position Egypt as a supplier of high-quality food products.

Fávero highlighted the growing demand for frozen food products in Brazil, driving the company’s interest in further expanding its Egyptian supplier base. The company, founded four years ago, aims to provide customers with fresh and frozen products 52 weeks a year by sourcing from both hemispheres.
