Deputy Energy Minister launches big push Electrification project

Richard Gyan-Mensah, Deputy Minister of Energy and Green Transition, has launched the "Big Push" Electrification project to benefit all 22 districts in the Central Region. The project, executed within six months, aims to enhance power supply and distribution across the region. President John Mahama's government has invested GH¢598 million into the electricity extension project to ensure affordable and regular power supply for the people.

The project will provide power to 200 communities in the 22 districts of the Central Region, improving healthcare delivery, education, security, and agro-processing to boost economic wellbeing. The Big Push electrification project, under the Rural Electrification Project (REP) programme, is being implemented in four regions: Savannah, Oti, Volta, and Central.

The government has awarded the project to Aviansses Ghana Company Limited, who are responsible for constructing a 33 KV primary sub-station in Apam. This sub-station will supply power to Gomoa West and parts of Ekumfi District, alleviating the need for power supply from the ECG Winneba Sub-station. Central Regional Minister Ekow Panyin Okyere Aduamoah praised the government for the electrification projects and urged chiefs and landowners to cooperate with the contractor for a smooth implementation.

The Central Regional Minister cautioned residents, particularly the youth, against stealing cables or project materials, threatening legal action against any culpable individuals. Gomoa Ajumako Traditional Council President Obrempong Nyanful Krampah XI commended the Mahama government's infrastructure development within one and a half years of governance, praising the improvements in roads, electrification, education, economy, and other sectors.
