Departing Romero says he wasn't perfect at Spurs

Cristian Romero has confirmed he was not perfect during his five-year tenure at Tottenham Hotspur. The 28-year-old Argentine centre-back has agreed to a five-year contract with Atletico Madrid, with a transfer fee of £34.2 million. His last match for Spurs was against Sunderland in April, when he left the field in tears due to a knee injury that kept him out of the team's last six Premier League games.

Romero's departure came amidst a relegation battle for Spurs, and he faced criticism for planning to be in Argentina for his club's final match. He returned to England for Spurs' final match against Everton, which secured their stay in the league. Despite his departure, Romero remains proud of his time at the club, stating that he gave his all and defended the shirt with pride.

He joined Tottenham from Atalanta in 2021 and played 156 matches, contributing to the team's first trophy in 17 years by helping them win the 2025 Europa League final. Romero expressed his gratitude to the fans and the club, and promised that a part of his heart would always remain with Tottenham.
