DAP must have an 'exit clause' if it opts to remain in government - Ramkarpal

More than 4,200 delegates from the DAP are attending their party's congress to decide if they should continue in the Federal government until the end of the term. According to Ramkarpal Singh, DAP Deputy Secretary-General, the party must remain flexible in deciding whether to stay in the government. Ramkarpal clarified that the delegates should not view voting to remain in the government as a binding commitment, regardless of future events.

He emphasized that delegates should have the freedom to re-evaluate their decision in the future, should they have reasonable grounds to do so. One of the circumstances that could be detrimental to the party is if UMNO insists on pardoning and releasing former President Najib Razak. Ramkarpal pointed out that this matter should be open for consideration by the delegates, who should be free to leave the government if it crosses a red line, even if they voted to stay.

DAP National Bureau Chairman Ramkarpal also commended Secretary-General Anthony Loke for providing objective explanations to delegates about the pros and cons of staying or leaving the government. He stressed that whether the proposal is labeled as an "exit clause" or not, it is still in the best interest of the party.
