Councillors Corner | ANC’s Nkukane accounts for Sol Plaatje’s Ward 15

With only 82 days remaining until South Africa's national elections, municipal councillors nationwide are concluding their five-year terms. In this installment of Councillors Corner, Digital News producer Lebo Tshangela interviews Thapelo Nkukane, the ANC Ward 15 councillor from the Northern Cape's Sol Plaatjie Municipality. Nkukane, responsible for regions like Phomolong and Solomon Mahlangu, discusses the challenges his ward has faced, notably the persistent sewage crisis.

"One of the most painful issues we're dealing with is sewage," Nkukane admits, cautioning against singling out his ward as the sole culprit. "We are in a crisis now in Sol Plaatjie, and most of our pump stations are operating on a temporary basis, frequently shutting down." The interview continues below.
