China’s ‘new’ Jetour Traveler 7 the first hint of facelift Jetour T2?

Since its debut three years ago, a refreshed version of the Jetour Traveler 7 has surfaced, signaling a potential facelift ahead of its world premiere at the Chengdu Motor Show next week. The Traveler 7 will be unveiled alongside six other models by Chery, the parent company, during the event commencing on August 21st. This refreshed T2 will be marketed as the Traveler 7 in China, situated below the Traveler 8, which made its debut in Beijing in April.

The "facelift" T2 draws visual cues from the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado First Edition and Traveler 8, featuring new rounded headlights, squared-off bumpers, and an illuminated strip across the newly designed grille. This also means the Jetour script has moved to the bonnet, similar to the T8, while the lower air intake has been reimagined with a rectangular appearance.

Minor upgrades have been made at the rear, including a Jetour script on the spare wheel cover, a color-coded bumper, and rectangular recovery points. Inside the vehicle, no interior images have been provided; however, patent documents obtained by Autohome confirm the Traveler 7's powertrain as the T2/Traveler's plug-in hybrid. This includes a 115 kW 1.5 T-GDI engine, an 18.4-kWh battery pack, and three electric motors that generate a combined 265kW/610Nm. The drive is directed to the front wheels via a three-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT).

It remains to be seen whether the Traveler 7 will retain the conventional combustion engines from the Traveler, namely the 1.5 T-GDI rated at 125kW/290Nm and the 2.0 T-GDI producing 180kW/375Nm. If confirmed as the facelift T2, as suggested by Malaysia’s paultan.org, it is likely to be introduced in South Africa, but more realistically, only next year, as sales of the current T2 only commenced last year, and those of the plug-in hybrid i-DM began in April.
