Chad le Clos reflects on loss and resilience after devastating fire

Chad le Clos, a decorated swimmer, recently reflected on the devastating fire that destroyed his home and claimed the life of his 93-year-old neighbor. Despite losing everything, Le Clos remains grateful for his health and ability to compete at his sport. The fire, which broke out on the top floor of an apartment building in Johannesburg, spread rapidly, ultimately causing the roof to collapse.

Several firefighters were injured, and it took nearly 24 hours for the blaze to be fully extinguished. Le Clos was attending the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow at the time, 9,000km away. While he was unable to attend his neighbor's funeral, he expressed his desire to be present for the Strime family's loss. The Chad le Clos Foundation has since launched a fundraising campaign to support those affected by the fire.

Le Clos, who has experienced significant challenges in his life, remains optimistic and focused on the future, emphasizing that he would rather have no home and cancer-free parents than a home and cancer.
