Catholic body urges govt to withdraw FCRA bill

In the wake of rising incidents of violence, atrocities, and mob lynching against Christians across India, the Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI) has called upon the government to withdraw the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill (FCRA Bill). Led by CBCI president Cardinal Anthony Poola, the bishops expressed concern over the Christian community's plight and stressed the importance of upholding the dignity of every human person.

The bishop emphasized that the Christian community has long contributed to India's growth through education, healthcare, and humanitarian assistance. He stressed that the FCRA bill could significantly impede the work of these institutions, hindering their ability to continue serving the people of India. The Foreign Contribution Amendment Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha in March 2026 and has been a subject of intense debate and opposition.

The CBCI president reminded citizens that India is a sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic, and urged the government to ensure freedom translates into humanity, justice, equality, and the welfare of the poor and marginalized.
