Bukit Aman say they know how MAS pilot cleared KLIA checks after three-day interrogation

Police in Malaysia are investigating a high-profile drug trafficking case involving a Malaysia Airlines pilot who was arrested in Jakarta with over 26kg of drugs in his luggage. The Malaysia Anti-Narcotics Police (Bukit Aman) Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, revealed that the three-day interrogation of the pilot was instrumental in uncovering the operation.

The questioning provided crucial intelligence on syndicate networks both in Malaysia and abroad, and allowed police to identify key individuals involved in the illicit trade.

The pilot, a 39-year-old Malaysia Airlines employee, was apprehended upon his arrival at Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport from Kuala Lumpur on July 28. The investigation, which initially began on August 12 and 13, was extended by a day and the suspect reportedly cooperated fully. NCID gained valuable insights into how the individual managed to evade checks at Kuala Lumpur International Airport and the financial transactions linked to the syndicate.

Hussein also emphasized the importance of the collaboration between the Malaysian and Indonesian National Police (POLRI) in the case. The NCID shared the intelligence gathered with relevant agencies, allowing them to better track and combat international drug syndicates. The case involved ecstasy tablets and a packet of methamphetamine discovered during an X-ray inspection at the airport.
