Brandi Carlile Announces Returning To Myself (Sad Gay Version)

Brandi Carlile has announced a special version of her 2025 album Returning To Myself, titled "Returning To Myself (Sad Gay Version)." This expanded edition is set to be released on September 25 through Interscope Records and Lost Highway Records, one year after the original album's release. The digital edition will include all tracks from the first pressing, plus an additional "sad gay" version of each song, providing an intimate and reimagined take on the original.

Fans can pre-order the vinyl edition featuring these "sad gay" versions of the songs, which requires pre-order by October 1st. The album art showcases the new cover of Billy Joel's "And So It Goes," rendered in a tender piano ballad style. Carlile co-produced four tracks with Aaron Dessner and worked with composer and electronic musician Jon Hopkins on the special version of "Human."

The "Sad Gay" genre, as Carlile describes it, is a genre that allows listeners to explore and express their emotions through music, regardless of their sexual orientation. By reimagining these songs, Carlile aims to bring her fans back to the edge of their beds and share in her own emotional journey.
