Bail bid for man suspected of making bomb threat against U.S. Consulate delayed again

A bail hearing for Ali Assakereh, a Halifax man suspected of making a bomb threat against the U.S. Consulate, was rescheduled for the third time on Friday. Assakereh, 54, was initially charged with uttering threats and public mischief after police found a propane tank and flammable liquids in his car near the consulate. His lawyer, Lonny Queripel, requested more information about the prosecution's case, as the ongoing police investigation has complicated his efforts to seek bail.

Queripel said the Crown hasn't clarified if other charges are pending, making it difficult to determine an appropriate bail plan. The judge granted Queripel's request for an adjournment until August 19. In the meantime, Assakereh's wife confirmed she was aware of the charges, but she is not fluent in English. A neighbor reported that police searched the family's home for about 12 hours on Monday, during which his teenage son pace the neighborhood in the heat. The family has not caused any disturbances.
