Amnesty initiates online petition against Fadahunsi over ‘kill Accord’ comment

Amnesty International Nigeria has launched an online petition seeking action against Senator Francis Fadahunsi in the wake of comments he made ahead of the Osun State governorship election. The organization urges Nigerians to sign the petition, which they unveiled on Friday, to ensure that Fadahunsi faces justice for inciting violence.

Amnesty asserts that the petition aims to protect the rights of Osun residents to participate freely in the election without any hindrance. They call on the Nigeria Police Force and the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to conduct an urgent, impartial, and thorough investigation into the alleged remarks made by Fadahunsi.

The controversy stems from a video clip circulating on social media featuring Fadahunsi addressing supporters in Ilesa ahead of the gubernatorial polls.

The senator was overheard making remarks perceived as a threat against members of the Accord Party. In response to the backlash, Fadahunsi clarified through his media office that his comment was metaphorical, aimed at defeating the Accord Party with votes and not physically attacking its members. Despite the clarification, the Osun State Police Command invited Fadahunsi to clarify the remarks, which he accepted and appeared before the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo.
