After Commonwealth gold, Azizulhasni sets sights on possible LA28 return

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 — After 16 years without a Commonwealth Games men’s keirin gold, Malaysia's track cycling star Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang is being eyed for a potential return to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics (LA28). Jefri Ngadirin, director-general of the National Sports Council (NSC), informed that Azizulhasni has been included in the Olympic Pathway and will receive focused support from the NSC and the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) if he chooses to pursue another Olympic campaign.

The decision will be made after the Asian Games, currently set to take place in Aichi-Nagoya in 2026. The NSC recently met with Azizulhasni, also known as 'The Pocket Rocketman', to discuss his plans, emphasizing that government support is not solely dependent on his status in the Road to Gold (RTG) programme, but also on his participation in the Podium Programme.
