Adamus Lease Revocation: Apply Same Rules For Galamsey, Big Mines – Retired Miner

Retired miner Samuel Kwaku Mensah has criticized the government's decision to revoke mining leases for Adamus Resources Limited, arguing that both local and foreign-owned companies should be held to the same standards. Mensah posits that while Ghanaian companies are vital to the economy through job creation, taxation, and livelihood provision, they must still abide by mining regulations.

He asserts that if individuals are being prosecuted for illegal mining (galamsey), large-scale mining operations must face equal consequences. The government's recent revocation of Adamus' leases stemmed from a review by an Inter-Ministerial Committee, which found significant violations of mining laws, including unauthorized transfers of concessions to foreigners, lack of operating permits, and failure to obtain necessary environmental approvals.

Additionally, Adamus was accused of withholding financial information and making misleading reports. The retired miner stresses that the issue is not about Ghanaian-owned versus foreign-owned companies, but rather whether companies followed the law. The broader question, he notes, is how the government can support local mining while rigorously enforcing legal requirements.
