Why Duduzane Zuma thinks South Africa should be grateful to his father

Duduzane Zuma, son of former South African President Jacob Zuma, believes his country should be thankful for his father's contributions. At a recent Biznews conference, Duduzane argued that his father has guided the nation through challenging times and helped avoid revolts. He emphasized his father's role in creating opportunities for the black majority and guiding them through difficult periods.

Duduzane, appointed as his father's first deputy president, addressed criticism of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) regarding the involvement of his relatives. Despite the party's lack of proper political structures, Duduzane stated that his father's policies aim to transform the country's economic landscape by having those with wealth "meet" the victims of apartheid.

He believes his father's party is well-positioned to take over municipalities in upcoming local government elections and will grow in preparation for the 2029 general elections. However, ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula recently criticized Jacob Zuma for his involvement in state capture and the looting of state resources during his presidency, describing it as "nine wasted years."

Political analyst Ntsikelelo Breakfast noted that Duduzane will need to understand the political landscape to potentially take over his father's party, as politics is a complex field that requires time and effort to grasp fully.
