Weak systems helped Adeyemi set up ‘fake agency’, says ICPC

Musa Aliyu, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, has stated that weak institutional controls allowed embattled fake Director-General Adeniyi Adeyemi to establish the fake agency and manipulate government processes. In a lecture, Aliyu highlighted how loopholes in Nigeria's public sector could be exploited for corruption and access to government processes.

He emphasized the need for stronger institutional controls and due diligence when dealing with official-looking documents. Aliyu cautioned that individuals could exploit these weaknesses to their advantage, posing a serious threat to the country's efforts to attract foreign direct investment. He urged that suspicious documents should prompt further checks before any action is taken, as sometimes they clearly indicate the need for further investigation.
