Tipper Drivers Association to petition IGP over insubordination among some members

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Tipper Drivers Association, Odei Ampofo, has announced that the organization is set to submit a petition to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) regarding the increasing instances of insubordination among its members. Mr. Ampofo emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that it poses a significant threat to road safety.

He warned that the refusal of certain drivers to obey directives could have severe repercussions for all road users. According to him, a growing number of drivers are displaying a lack of discipline, failing to follow instructions from the association and other authorities. This behavioral shift, according to Mr. Ampofo, is a contributing factor to the rising number of accidents involving tipper trucks, potentially leading to more catastrophic events if immediate action is not taken.

The association plans to formally inform the IGP about the issue to solicit their assistance in tackling the conduct of the drivers. Mr. Ampofo underscored the importance of discipline and strict adherence to road safety regulations, given that tipper trucks are heavy-duty vehicles that can cause substantial harm in the event of an accident.

He urged members to show respect for the association's authority and to adhere to safety directives, to safeguard themselves and other road users. The Greater Accra Regional Chairman cautioned that the association will remain vigilant, refusing to remain passive while the actions of a few drivers pose a threat to lives and property.
