Tielemans apologises to Villa fans for Man Utd remarks

Youri Tielemans has expressed regret over his remarks suggesting a move to Manchester United, sparking discontent among Aston Villa fans. The 29-year-old Belgian midfielder transferred to United this summer, triggered by a £35 million release clause in his contract. After spending three years at Villa Park, where he scored 10 goals in 134 appearances, Tielemans praised the club for helping him reach his best level.

However, during United's pre-season tour, he admitted that there were clubs above Villa, with Manchester United being one of them. In a follow-up post on Instagram, Tielemans clarified that his words were intended to offend no one, but he acknowledged his mistake and apologized for his choice of words. He vowed to be more careful in the future and expressed his gratitude towards the club, before wishing them well in the future.

Tielemans, who played a crucial role in Belgium reaching the World Cup quarter-finals, signed with United until 2031. He cited his dedication and passion for football as the reasons for his move to Old Trafford, stating that signing for such a prestigious club feels incredible. The new Premier League season begins next weekend, with United facing AC Milan and Villa taking on Borussia Monchengladbach in their final pre-season games.
