Suspended Class 1 GAS officer sent to judicial custody in DA case

On Thursday, a special court in Ahmedabad transferred suspended Class 1 Gujarat Administrative Service officer Ketki Vyas into judicial custody. Vyas was previously apprehended by the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) of Ahmedabad City Police and subsequently handed over to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The ACB has filed charges against her for possession of disproportionate assets (DA).

The court's decision came more than a week after the Gujarat High Court denied Vyas' anticipatory bail plea in the matter. According to an ACB statement, the investigation is primarily based on documentary evidence, which negated the need for remand. In the presence of Vyas, her apartment in Ahmedabad, which had been previously sealed, was searched and she was questioned. The ACB also seized six bank lockers belonging to her parents, though those have yet to be examined.

ACB Deputy Director Hareshkumar Mevada disclosed to The Indian Express that substantial transactions were found in the bank accounts of Vyas and her parents. The official emphasized that the family's income alone could not account for such large sums, suggesting no legitimate source for these deposits. Mevada also noted that Vyas' parents owned two houses generating rental income.
