수능 ‘서·논술 도입’ 공론화…국교위 내부서도 “답 정해놓은 것 아닌지” 우려

Recently, the National Education Commission (National Education Council) faced criticism for announcing the direction of the revamped college entrance exam system without sufficient preliminary discussions. The National Education Council held a general meeting in Seoul on the 13th where the Commission's Chairman, Chae Jung-in, presented the redesigned college entrance exam system direction to be discussed and publicized.

The Chairman mentioned that he based his presentation on the closed discussions of the College Entrance Exam Special Committee from last May. However, this announcement sparked concerns from some officials, such as Hong Deuk-je, who expressed worries that the system's direction was already fixed before sufficient discussion. Similarly, other officials like Hyun In and Lee Byung-woo raised concerns about the lack of explicit consideration of controversial issues in the school setting.

In response, the National Education Council committed to holding several regional discussions with students, parents, and educators over the coming months to gather diverse perspectives on the college entrance exam reform. Meanwhile, the Council also adopted a draft of the School and Citizen Education National Basic Principles (Draft) which outlines essential values and responsibilities for students in navigating a democratic society while maintaining political neutrality.
